Human Trafficking Outreach & Aftercare

Freedom is the beginning.
Healing takes time.

Since 2009, The Life Link has run New Mexico's only comprehensive aftercare program for survivors of sex and labor trafficking. We meet survivors quickly, keep them safe, and stay with them for as long as they need us.

Our approach

Survivor-driven, with no time limit.

Survivors decide the pace and direction of their own recovery. There is no set discharge date, and services do not depend on cooperating with law enforcement. That freedom is what makes it safe to come forward.

Our advocates include Certified Peer Support Workers, one of them a survivor. They work alongside therapists, prescribers, housing staff and legal partners across the state so that a survivor can find a full circle of support in one place.

A full circle of support

Crisis response and safety planning

Fast response, safety planning and stabilization when a survivor first reaches out.

Advocacy

Help navigating courts, agencies and benefits, including court accompaniment.

Counseling and trauma therapy

Individual and group counseling, plus psychiatric and substance use treatment.

Safe housing

Transitional and emergency housing dedicated to survivors, with ongoing housing support.

Legal and practical help

Connections to civil legal services, food, clothing, emergency supplies and benefits.

Work and life skills

Job readiness, employment support and life skills for a new start.

Sojourners Advocacy Café

A drop-in space where survivors can connect with advocates and with each other.

A text sent in a moment of privacy can be the difference between help and continued exploitation.

Rights-based care

No conditions

Help never depends on talking to police or pressing charges.

No deadline

Survivors stay in care as long as they need it.

Statewide partners

Close coordination with law enforcement, legal and health partners across New Mexico.
